- Screen All Adult Patients for Drug Abuse, National Panel Urges, US Preventive Services Task Force
- The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force is recommending that all primary care clinicians screen all adult patients for illicit drug use, including improper use of prescription medications. This is a major shift from their 2008 guidelines as the panel notes there is sufficient evidence now indicating that screening and appropriate referrals can lead to a reduction in substance use.

- The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has reaffirmed its recommendation to incorporate universal screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment (SBIRT) practices for adolescent substance use into routine care.
